Redline Tuning (advertising package) - 2025

By Pufan Shan

My research explored the history of car branding. I looked at how car ads have changed, from simply listing technical details to telling emotional stories. I studied successful car modification shops like RE Amemiya to see how they build a strong reputation by being experts in a specific area and staying true to their culture. I also looked at what makes classic car logos effective, and how community gatherings, like the Daikoku Parking Area in Japan, create real loyalty. This research provides a clear framework of successful strategies in car marketing and design.

Redline Tuning focuses on developing a complete advertising package for my car modification shop. The package includes three key components: a primary logo that reflects both the shop’s mechanical precision and creative vision, a series of collectible stickers that extend the brand’s presence through merchandise, and an animated poster that brings the brand narrative to life through motion graphics. Together, these elements create a multi-platform branding package that demonstrates how a unified visual language can connect digital and physical consumer experiences within the car modification community.

My research directly informs and guides the creative direction of my thesis project. Historical analyses of car advertisements helped me understand how to balance technical precision with emotional impact in both my poster and animation. Observing the branding strategies of successful modification shops also influenced my logo design, encouraging me to emphasize expertise and credibility. By translating these insights into design choices, I bridge theoretical marketing principles with practical application, showing how a nuanced understanding of automotive culture can produce an authentic and compelling brand identity.
